VP for Film & TV

Full creative control over narrative worlds

Virtual Production is not just a technical evolution but a new way of storytelling, where imagination and technology literally blend.

It’s a space where filmmakers can build entire worlds, move seamlessly between environments ‘miles apart’, and capture their vision in real-time. VP offers a balance of control and creativity and we’re here to help you get started.

At its core, it’s about finding harmony—between the virtual and the real, between innovation and tradition—enabling filmmakers to bring their stories to life.

The Tipping Point: When VP Delivers

For longer-form productions like film and episodic, screen time and scale tend to matter most.

The initial investment in asset creation—whether a simple 2D backdrop, 360-degree plate playback for car scenes, or a fully interactive 3D environment—becomes highly cost-effective as everything shot within the studio day incurs no additional costs, unlike VFX, where every individual shot adds to the budget.

Once the virtual assets are ‘handed over to the crew’, they can shoot from any angle or make creative adjustments in real-time, without additional expenses.

Almost like in a real shooting location and in some regards with extended control.

iHostage

Large Scale Virtual Production
Pop-up Studio

iHostage is a gripping thriller inspired by the shocking hostage situation at the Apple Store in Amsterdam in 2022. Directed by Bobby Boermans (The Golden Hour, Mocro Maffia) and written by Simon de Waal (Sleepers), the film follows a Bulgarian man who unexpectedly finds himself in a life-threatening situation when an armed assailant takes over the store. Told through the eyes of the perpetrator, the hostages, and the emergency services, iHostage unfolds an intense and emotional story about courage, survival, and the lasting impact of terror.

ReadySet Studios played a key role in the making of this first Dutch Netflix Original, which depended heavily on the seamless integration of a full-scale replica of the Amsterdam Apple Store and its surroundings, including the bustling Leidseplein city square. Early in production, it became clear that shooting the 15+ minutes of scenes set inside the store would require a highly controlled and flexible environment.

To achieve this, a digital twin of the existing location was created; not as a physical set, but as a virtual environment projected onto a massive LED wall (60m x 6m). This setup displayed Leidseplein as a fully interactive real-time game level, allowing the crew to make live adjustments to camera angles, lighting transitions (day to night), vehicle placement, and virtual crowds (complete with public transport and other iconic features of the Amsterdam cityscape) to maintain narrative continuity and authenticity.

Due to the scale of the production, ReadySet’s permanent studio in Amsterdam Duivendrecht was not sufficient on its own. A temporary LED volume was therefore designed and built in an airplane hangar, offering the space needed to accommodate the project’s scope.

Rampvlucht / The Crash

ICVFX for High-End Episodic

In The Crash, a considerable amount of scenes (and screen time) take place in the Dutch parliament as investigations about the cause of the crash and the mysterious cargo inside the plane are an important part of the narrative. The two main spaces where Dutch government resides, the First Chamber (Eerste Kamer, or ‘senate’) and Second Chamber (Tweede Kamer, or ‘house of representatives’) are not accessible to film crews, nor do they look like they used to in the period 1992 – 1998 when the story is set. Rampvlucht is now available on NPO+ in the Netherlands or on Apple tv+ internationally

Neem me mee

Car plates for a Feature Roadmovie

The movie “Neem me Mee” tells the story of six elderly individuals who are strangers to each other, embarking on a vacation together to Southern France on a small bus. As their journey unfolds and they become more acquainted with one another, an unexpected bond forms among the travelers.

To create a more controllable and convenient setting for the many road scenes, custom car plates were seamlessly integrated into 360 environments and shot at ReadySet Studios, Amsterdam.
